Most photographers are waiting for the shot. I'm usually already there.
Before a day starts I have a sense of where it's going. The light, the energy, the moments that are building toward something. Some of that is experience. Most of it is just paying attention.
But the older I get in this work the more I realize the best frames aren't always the ones I planned for. They're the ones that only happen because I stopped trying to direct and just let the day be what it was. Loud or quiet. Messy or still. Whatever is most true to the two people at the center of it.
I got here through years of photographing communities, families, and everyday people whose stories deserved to be remembered. That work taught me to see what's real and to never impose a version of someone's story that isn't theirs.
